i learned how to curl my hair :)

Haha post titles don't get more straightforward than that do they? ^_~

So I finally attempted to curl my hair with my Sedu flat iron. I tried it once, many years ago, and it was a disaster. And, I've never been a fan of curling my hair. I like the curls that you achieve with rollers, but being the low maintenance, lazy girl that I am I would never go to the trouble of using them!

So I was watching youtube videos by some of my fav gurus, and I got inspired to give my flat iron another go. Did it right before jumping in the shower when my hair is oiliest haha. I like that with a flat iron you can vary the size of the curls by pulling faster/slower, or angling the iron.

This tee is also my new fav for weekend wear. $7.95 from H&M.

And here's me in the W Hotel bathroom with my everyday straight hair. I thought the carved side of the mirror was cool.

Didn't realize until looking at this pic how much my hair has lightened since dyeing it with the Palty. It's growing on me. I also love how much the dye has dried out my roots, and given them more volume and texture. My natural hair is sooooo incredibly oily it's disgusting, and makes my roots plaster to my scalp. I've tried everything from CO washing, to shampooing every other day, shampoo with sulfates, shampoo w/o sulfates... dyeing my hair is really the best and lowest maintenance way to battle the oiliness.

This is the video I used to learn how to curl with flat iron: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrWwyPHrZxQ . It's by Sedu, only 1:54, and she shows how to create various curls (like holding the iron horizontal will create a tighter curl versus pulling the iron downward to create more beachlike curl). Nothing beats an under 2 minute video tutorial!

  1. Your hair is so long :) I love the colour too! I've been wanting to try Palty but I don't know where to get it. I mean I live in SoCal .. they HAVE to stock it somewhere right hahaha xD

Those curls are so pretty on you! I love them ^__^ (Okay seriously going to send you your love package after 8/5 promise). I'm going to bite down, ignore this girl pain, and get through physics :)

  2. I'm also too lazy and low maintenance to curl my hair more than once in a blue moon :) I've never tried using flat irons to curl hair though... the video makes it look easy but I get the feeling that it's harder than it looks!

  4. Your hair really has lightened up and I'm loving it. Typically every summer I get a foil to get it to a medium brown but the cost and hassle of maintenance has deterred me this year. I love the look of curly hair, but with hair as long as ours (well, mine was) doesn't it take so long?

  6. Oooooh I love your hair!!! I have NEVER been able to 'do' hair before. And ANOTHER huge commonality - my hair is crazy mad oily and gets so horrible by the end of the day, even when I shower in the morning! I hate hate hate it. I would love to dye my hair, but am not brave enough to do it -_- *sigh* You look great and WOW staying at the W!!! Ballin'!

  7. Sophia you did a good job! I can never curl my hair using one of those things. It always ends up looking like a mess with curls and straight pieces.

P.S. Don't dye your hair anymore. Looks good as is!!

  8. Angie ~ try a Japanese grocery store! Like Marukai ( I still have my member card hehe)

PAG ~ YES it does take long, esp since I take really small strands at a time. That's why I will reserve curling my hair for very special events hahaha.

Irene ~ Oh I only went to the bar at the W! We had friends from out of town to entertain, and the people watching at the W is something else (I kid you not I saw a girl wearing Daisy Dukes with HALF her butt hanging out. HALF HER BUTT!!!)

Thanks ladies for the sweet words ^_^

  15. Thank you girls :)

Yes ~ it really does take practice! And patience! But I found it easier than a curling iron - I could never figure out how to move my wrist the opposite way to get the curls on both sides of my head to match!

  25. Sophia!!♥

I'm so sorry the likes of me haven't found my way over to your blog! :( It doesn't seem like helping out with babysitting and with household chores should take up all of my time, but it really does, and I'm amazed myself! I respect and give props to stay-at-home moms for all the work they do and for having to stick to a mundane routine almost everyday. O_O Whenever I have free time, I usually spend it job searching and applying to open positions. Sometimes, I sneak a nap...or I get out of the house! lol it's so nice to get out of the house. The job search aspect really sucks because I'd apply and hear nothing back! :'( Typically, if a company is interested in you, how long should it take between the time you submit your app to the time you should hear from them? =/ *le sigh*

Anyway, I really miss you! Thank you for wondering how I'm doing...it really touches my heart to know that you think of me! ^_^ Thank you for your sweet & encouraging comment on my blog and for sharing your job hunt/work experiences with me!<3 I really really appreciate your kindness! :)

Your hair color looks GREAT, Sophia!! I really like how it has really lightened up on you! hehe I love you with light hair. Your color now is really PERFECT and very appropriate for summer!<3 YAYY for learning how to curl your hair! I applaud you!! hehe You are ahead of me! haha I have yet to master the art of hair curling by using a flat iron! GOSH, you are so SEXY & GORGEOUS with your voluminous hair! I loves it!! ;D I wish my hair was the same length as yours! It's perfect! haha You and Serena BOTH have sexy perfect hair!!

  26. your hair looks great curly! i've been wanting curl mine too, maybe this will inspire me :)

for oily hair, have you tried putting baby powder on your roots? it's supposed to absorb the oil throughout the day- just make sure to brush well so it doesn't look like you have major dandruff, lol :D

  27. I want hair as long as yours, Sophia!!!

  30. I forgot to ask you what hair color have you used to make your hair lighter. I have pretty dark hair and I usually have to go down about 4-5 colors to get a medium brown.
What have you used. I know you talked about a hair color a few posts ago. Did you use them? If so, what color. Thanks :)
