simple hair bun

I bought the Japanese hair bun thing (http://bit.ly/fmXC4K).. but before it arrived I started doing my bun using the materials I already have. VERY easy, and takes 1-2 minutes once you're proficient at it. It's great for me on those occasions where I haven't washed my hair the night before and my hair starts getting oily....

you will need:
*hair elastic
*claw (size depends on thickness of your hair...). I use the Goody 3 prong one that's one size up from mini (http://bit.ly/gNVYzh).
*bobby pins (I use 1)

Let's begin.

1. Tie ponytail. The higher it is, the higher the bun. duh.

2. Flip hair over

3. Secure hair with claw.

4. Pull hair down on both sides to create bun, and use bobby pin at bottom to secure.

Tips:
*match the color of hair tie to your hair (duh)
*pull out strands for messy look. you can make this look as messy or as neat as you like.
*ctrl size of bun by folding over more/less hair
*curled hair looks nice too.

weekend in photos

It's been awhile since I've posted. I tried to think of 7 confessions for the tag, but I'm really such a boring person and don't have anything juicy to share with you all :)

I'm sick today and just taking it easy.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed the long weekend :)

rose colored glasses

I have a tendency to look at places through rose colored glasses when I travel. When I'm in another place, suddenly, food is prepared better, people are friendlier, clothes are trendier, and home seems so stale. Those glasses never came off during my study abroad in Nagoya. My American classmates teased me and said after a month or so it would wear off.. I'd start to see things for what they really were and things wouldn't seem so wondrous anymore. But nope. Come the end of my stay, I was just as much in love with Nagoya and literally cried at the thought of going back to the States. And I suffered for months afterward. I had those same wondrous feelings in Vancouver. Boston. Seoul.

Anyways. I was thinking about that as I took the photos for this post. I
love Asian beauty products! Often times I find Asian beauty products better than American ones. The packaging is always exquisite. Quality is superb. Oftentimes they're so pretty you can't bear to take them out of the package and even use them!

Take this Dolly Wink lash glue for example. The applicator is freaking genius
! I love the bottle, the twist cap (glue won't dry up), and the brush applicator. Sooo much better than the squeeze tubes!

Such pretty, pretty packaging!! If Ardell ever packaged their lash accessories like this I would totally buy! The Dolly Wink and the Anna Sui hand towel (they have a shop in NYC!!!) were gifts from my super duper amazing sister :D

Wearing pa lashes (I believe they're 06).

Some things I've learned from my lash experiences, in case someone asks:

*I've only ever used
white glue, with no issues. It dries clear on me. And, yes it's probably visible under black light, but I don't frequent places that have black lights ...

*I apply lashes while the glue is wet,
not tacky. If I wait until it's tacky it will be difficult to maneuver the lashes should I place them incorrectly on my eyes.

*I apply glue thinly toward the center, and more thickly at both ends. I have never, ever, had lashes fall off on me.

I know this goes against what most of you have heard regarding glue and lashes etc but as I told my gf today, different strokes for different folks. You really just gotta find what works best for
you.

In other news... I've discovered a new favorite snack! Korean sweet potato chips!! They're not too sweet, super crunchy, and relatively healthy.

I was so scared they would run out of 'em so I asked my sister to buy me more. The cashier had to ring them up one by one hahahaha.

new fav lipstick and other current ♥s

Forgettabout those other lipsticks I said I liked so much. I have a new love ~ Canmake Melty Nude l/s in Baby Pink (http://www.canmake.com/en/elip/item_lip014.html, and buy here). It's a Japanese brand drugstore lipstick. The packaging and imprint on the l/s are to die for. Glides on sooo nicely. And it looks killer with gloss underneath (yes, I apply under, not over l/s) Oh, yea, did I mention it's a DRUGSTORE l/s?? Come on American brands... step it up already!

Gifted to me by my dear, dear friend ♥ Susy

(no gloss here, and hastily applied in my excitement!)

Finally bought a darn clutch! Been wanting one but couldn't find one I liked in my price range. I've been in need of a non-black purse too, so this fit the bill! Tahari brand from Loehmann's, marked down from $158 to $55. I'm in love with foldover clutches!

Jeans! I've always wanted distressed jeans but hate trying them on. On a whim, I tried this brand Vigoss at Nordstrom Rack. Fits perfect. Like, everywhere. At my hip, thigh, knee, calf.. they hugggg my legs everywhere. The only other brand that has ever fit me so well is Frankie B (ladies out there who have no hips and no ass like me ~ you've got to try Frankie B!), but instead of being $229 these were $29.99. SCORE!

accessories ~ a video post

Just this past year I've discovered 2 new loves~ lipstick and jewelry! I feel like wearing either can be such a fast, simple, and inexpensive way to completely change your look ~ for the better! When it comes to jewelry, I used to shy away from big statement pieces because I thought they could only be worn by tall, larger framed women. But, I've found that if you find the right piece that has the right proportions and placement, it can work no matter how short/tall or small/big you are! I also like adding color to my outfit using jewelry rather than an article of clothing.. it's much easier for me to wear, say, a red necklace than it is to wear a red shirt/sweater!

My idea of a "quick" video is to talk on and on for 10 minutes :p
Talk about jewelry until the 7:00 mark, then I show a few scarves.
Wearing NYX "India" l/s. Love it!

Gaah I love this necklace! And love the $7 price tag!

Love how it can glam up my yoga pants and cotton top. I think this necklace would work well with a jumpsuit.

While I was picking up some beads at a local craft shop, I spotted this - how ingenius to turn a picture frame into an earring holder!
